HVG Law has assisted the Widows and Orphans Development Foundation in applying for ANBI status with the Dutch Tax Authorities. This foundation is selflessly committed to the rights of widows and orphans in Africa (mainly in Tanzania).
About Widows and Orphans Development Foundation
Widows and Orphans Development Foundation was established at the end of 2020 as a foundation with the aim of improving the social, economic and legal position of widows in Tanzania.
She is committed to the position of widows and their children, among other things by rolling out programs to improve economic and social independence, raising awareness about human rights and drawing attention to the problems of widows and their children at national level. and local authorities. The foundation is completely dependent on donations to carry out its activities. Obtaining ANBI status is an important step in this regard, because this entails tax benefits for the foundation itself as well as for its sponsors.
About the collaboration with HVG Law, Ms Jamila Sulu (chairman of the foundation) notes the following:
“We very much appreciate the legal support rendered by HVG Law as a firm and every one of them who worked with such a high level of professionalism and due diligence to help Stichting Widows and Orphans Development become an ANBI organization. We appreciate the help of HVG Law because of the professionalism, diligence, commitment and self-motivation of its lawyers in handling our organization’s matter (on pro bono basis).”
About the pro bono activities of HVG Law
HVG Law is a founding member of Pro Bono Connect. Pro Bono Connect mediates between Dutch civil society organizations that need legal help and leading law firms that want to provide free legal advice. Within HVG Law, seven lawyers form the pro bono committee. They assess applications from Pro Bono Connect and – when an application is accepted – advise the civil society organizations on their specific request for help. The request from Widows and Orphans Development Foundation also came in via Pro Bono Connect.
